(1) This quote was the conclusion of a study published in 2018 in Clinical Interventions In Aging, entitled The impact of pelvic floor muscle training on the quality of life of women with urinary incontinence: a systematic literature review:
“The results of this literature review demonstrate that pelvic floor muscle training is an effective treatment for urinary incontinence in women. Pelvic floor muscle training significantly improves the quality of life of women with urinary incontinence, which is an important determinant of their physical, mental, and social functioning.”
(2) This quote was the conclusion of a study published in 2014 in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, entitled A Group-Based Yoga Therapy Intervention for Urinary Incontinence in Women: A Pilot Randomized Trial:
“Findings provide preliminary evidence to support the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of a group-based yoga therapy intervention to improve urinary incontinence in women.”
(3) This quote comes from a study published in 2009 in Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, entitled Randomized controlled trial on the effect of pelvic floor muscle training on quality of life and sexual problems in genuine stress incontinent women:
“There was a statistically significant ( p <0.01) reduction in number of women having problems with sex-life, social life, and physical activity in the exercise group after six months of pelvic floor muscle exercise.”
(4) This quote comes from a study published in 2008 in International Urogynecology Journal, entitled Pelvic floor muscle training improves sexual function of women with stress urinary incontinence:
“The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a program of supervised pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on sexual function, in a group of women with urodynamically diagnosed stress urinary incontinence (SUI), using a validated questionnaire. Incontinence episodes frequency and continence pads used per week were measured before and after treatment using a 7-day bladder diary. Improvements in sexual function were assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Seventy women completed the 12-month program of supervised PFMT successfully. At the end of the study, incontinence episode frequency decreased by 38.1%, and patients required 39% less pads per week. All domains of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were also significantly improved with median total FSFI scores increasing from 20.3 to 26.8.”

Most pelvic floor muscle training

I’m in a different position though... one that makes me uniquely qualified to design exercise programs that actually work, and that people actually stick to.

Why does this exercise program have four separate routines?
The four different routines in this program are:
#1: Main Routine
#2: Chair Routine
#3: Standing Routine
#4: Floor / Bed Routine
I included four different routines in 10 Gentle Yoga Poses For A Strong Pelvic Floor for two reasons:
REASON #1: Some people will be able to do the poses and stretches in this program in all of the different positions — Chair, Standing, Floor / Bed, but some people (due to certain physical limitations) may only be able to do the poses on the floor or bed. Some people may have trouble getting up and down off the floor, and those folks may only be able to do the poses and stretches in a standing position. So, I’ve intentionally designed this so that everyone can do this program, no matter their physical limitations or what position they need to do it in.
REASON #2: It’s helpful, and can speed your progress to do these poses and stretches in different positions because it trains your pelvic floor muscles in slightly different ways (i.e. on a chair, standing, or on the floor or bed).
